hypothesis: the salt & pepper diner experiment can no longer be conducted as it stands, because everyone is now fully attuned to the opening bars of tom jones’ “what’s new pussycat?”, classically conditioned into a fight-or-flight response. however, this experience can be replicated using 21 back-to-back plays of lou bega’s 1999 hit song “mambo no. 5″, as the general response to “mambo no. 5″ being played twice in a row is not, “hey someone’s playing “mambo no. 5″ again,” but rather, “hey, lou bega’s 1999 hit song “mambo no. 5″ is a lot longer than i first thought.”
So what’s the “It’s Not Unusual” in this situation
Livin’ la Vida Loca

(Please add more if you think of anything! ^_^)
These are awesome ideas!
I’d love to see future Pokemon games showing a bit more of the domestic/service side of the pokemon world as opposed to the primary focus of monsters trained for combat purposes.
This idea is fertile ground for headcanons, so I’m just gonna leave these here.
Gardevoir: Uses its psychic bond with their trainer to tell if they are having depressed or suicidal thoughts. If it senses that their partner is about to self-harm, it will spring into action and steer them away from danger.
Gyarados & Golisopod: After being pushed around so much in their previous forms, they’ve developed an affinity for the abused and downtrodden. They protect their trainers from former abusers, and do everything they can to make them feel safe.
Milotic: With its power to soothe enraged creatures, it assists trainers with chronic anger issues. Seeing nothing but red? Can’t think through the fog of unbridled rage? Milotic is there to help you remain calm.
Abra: “Uh oh, this building doesn’t have a wheelchair ramp. Good thing I have the power of unrestricted teleportation is at my beck and call.”
Garbodor: Picks up after trainers with executive dysfunction, who often have trouble maintaining clean living spaces.
Ditto: Helps autistic trainers stim by transforming into a variety of soothing textile substances. Think sentient Play-Doh.
Klefki: A trainer with poor memory retention will never lose their car keys again.
I have so many ideas for this – I don’t think I’m quite done with these yet. But while I’m busy brainstorming, do feel free to add your own. <3
oh hell yeah let’s do this!
ditto - autistic trainers can use ditto’s transforming abilities for textures as well as moves (such as soundproof or scent abilities for overwhelming environments) and people with multiple chronic illnesses can use ditto’s abilities for the variety of different needs they have.
minncino/cinncino - naturally obsessed with cleaning, so works well for hygiene and house maintenance. it’s fur is also very soft, which could help a trainer to both ground and boost their mood. (works for any executive dysfunction problems and low spoons)
chansey/blissey - they both (especially chansey) make eggs that are very nutritious and mood boosting. they also are naturally inclined to care for people, which could also prove extremely helpful, especially for more serve depression.
miltank- probably a little harder to care for than chansey, but miltank also makes extremely nutritious food, this time a milk. i can imagine for someone with severe sensory issues/chronic pain/eating disorders miltank’s food might be easier to handle than chansey’s egg, with similar health benefits. plus miltank’s size might be good for physical support.
sylveon - helps with dissosciation, ptsd, and anxiety since it naturally wraps it’s soothing and grounding ribbons around it’s trainer’s arm and walks next to them at all times.
munna - for trainers with severe insomnia and nightmares, munna can help both eat bad dreams and sooth a trainer to help them sleep
rideable pokemon (such as arcanine, stoutland, tarous, charazard, etc.) are good for trainers who, for one reason or another can’t drive, and are also good for guarding trainers from themselves as well (seizures, anxiety attacks, violent flashbacks, self-injurious meltdowns, etc.)
ninetails - both can use it’s weight to ground, as well as wrap a trainer in it’s tails as a way to block them from accidentally touching people or surfaces and keep other people away (this is especially helpful for ptsd and autism)
jigglypuff - works best for anxiety and insomnia, since it’s song is very soothing and it does whatever it can to help it’s trainer feel better
luccario - excellent for detection and alert, whether it’s for seizures, blood sugar spikes or crashes, heart problems, panic attacks, meltdowns or narcoleptic episodes. it can sense it’s owner’s aura and help get them to safety before a problem happens.
slurpuff/swirlix and swinub - both have extremely good senses of smell, which is very good for diabetes detection. swirlix especially since it can create eatable sugar, which could help with severe crashes
altaria - works for a variety of issues, especially anxiety, ptsd, and autism. it wraps it’s wings around it’s trainer and hums, which is very soothing. this way it protects it’s trainer as it calms them down. also very obsessed with cleaning, which helps with executive dysfunction problems.
aipom - very good for a variety of mobility issues also very good for helping with memory problems.
